Keeping Promises

Instead of suffering through Burnley (0) - Brighton and Hove Albion (2) I went to Lincoln. Little did I know at the time it was the start of me making promises to myself and actually keeping them, not just in a romanticising my life way, it's also a remove the tarnish from the bathroom radiator kind of a way too.

When we arrived in Lincoln, we headed to one of our favourite cafes, where I surprised myself by ordering porridge - apple crumble porridge. Later, after staring at the fruit compote area at Booths for longer than was sensible I decided to make my own, and recreate apple crumble porridge. It took half an hour from unpeeled apples and some stuff from the pantry to being cooked, portioned out, washed up and a cup of tea made. Plus the never-used ice cube tray is now a frozen apple tray, rather than an annoying cupboard dweller.

But it's not all about food, it's about saying I want to do a certain thing and then just doing it - new recipes, now not just for floating around the house on the back of an old receipt. Exercise - doesn't matter if I want to do it, I'll be happier having done it in a lacklustre fashion than to not to have done it at all. Reading, spending 20 minutes in the garden (weather permitting). It's worse to think about these things than to just do them, and I will always be in a better place tomorrow for having done them today.

TLDR: I delayed cutting down this sow thistle, today when I did it the thing was over 6ft tall, and at this point the rest of the border is packed, which made it tricky. I think this is the lesson.

  3. All of the things you mentioned are things I think about and don’t do enough of. Thank you for the nudge! I shall try and keep some promises to myself this week.

    1. I hope you find something you want to do and go with it.

Finally preparing, rather than thinking about, some of those delicious sounding meals has been such a boost, and unlike the exercise I haven't complained a bit.

Each to their own goes without saying.
