In Case It Helps

Yesterday I mentioned exercise, here's my clarification for any eye rollers out there. I do not like exercise.

I don't like being hot, I don't like being achy, I don't like having to own special stretchy clothing, I don't like being encouraged through a screen (let alone in person), I don't like having the understairs cupboard stuffed with heavy things, I don't like being outside, I don't like walking for the sake of it (a six mile round trip to get to work, fine, a six mile recreational walk, no thank you), I don't want to ever have to say the word pannier out loud. It is not fun. Idgaf about the nice view from the top.

We went to Malham last year, only because there's a vegan hotel, not for the countryside. I like that the countryside exists, it's nice seeing it from a train when I'm going to a city, but I don't want to be in it. So imagine my delight upon being told I had to "scramble" up a waterfall. That did not happen, I will never be described as being a good sport.

My exercise goal is nothing more than to get through the suggested 150 minutes per week and occasionally lift something heavier than a cup of tea (but not much heavier). I do it, I do it for no other reason that I'm told it's good for me. So, if you don't like exercise but feel compelled to do something my suggestion is to not worry about finding something you like, just find something you'll do, even if you complain the whole time, as I do.

  2. Every time I leave London, I remark that it's 'nice, but there are no hills.' I think I know the waterfall you mention. The view from the top isn't all that great :)

    1. I went to the to the limestone pavement and the tarn, just by the other path.

  3. I've always found with exercise that forming the habit keeps you doing it. If you like it, it helps, but it's not essential. I like some forms, i.e. dance type classes. I like other forms much less, i.e. the gym, but try to go once per week, because I know it will help keep me strong as I age.

    1. I agree, I know it's half an hour a day Monday to Friday, so unless I'm ill, that's what I do. It's easier to do it than to think about it and engage in a negotiation with myself.

Each to their own goes without saying.
