Just like the only important thing about an outfit are the shoes, the most important thing with a haircut is speaking the same language as the person about to give me the chop.
I've been going to the same hairdresser for over a decade, two reasons - the salon is near my house, and she has never complained about how fine my hair is. But we've never quite spoken the same language, until today. I showed her some pictures, she pulled a bit of a face and then she said "so you want it a bit more edgy". YES, that's exactly it, like a librarian who would point you in the direction of all the banned books.
The result was simply to cut an extra centimetre off the back of my hair, but still, it's a new understanding.
