More work, more sleep, more rain, more doing, more fun, more stuff, more cooking, more failing, more trying again. That just about sums up the week.

It finally stopped raining yesterday so I'll say no more about that. I have been at the charity shop four days this week because we've had so much stuff to deal with and we are bare bones in terms of staff, one manager is away, the other manager is needed to cover another shop, we have no van driver. One of the ladies was unable to get in earlier this week as her road was being resurfaced so the bus wasn't running, another lady fell and dislocated her shoulder so she's off for a while and a third was involved in a car crash (I saw her yesterday and she is very shaken and very bruised but has no serious physical injuries).

So it's been a bit hectic!

Dan is also at work this morning, he works in an office so has a regular 9-5, well 8-5ish, he sometimes works in the evening or goes somewhere overnight, but never a Saturday morning before. So I'm doing today what I would usually do on a Friday - running round making the house weekend cosy, part of which involves admiring the new print I brought home from the charity shop yesterday

there was some information about the artist on the back

it's ideal for the living room.

In our attempts to rely less on premade things I have also attempted some chocolate brownies. I used the easiest recipe I could find and didn't let not having enough flour or the proper brownie making tin (I only have round ones) I went for it anyway.

I added some chocolate chips, and I'm glad I did as without them it would have just felt like a not all that chocolatey bit of sponge, but it's a start and looks marginally better than the choc chip cookies I tried a few weeks ago!

So the to-do list for today is done and it's just turned 9.30 time for some fun and relaxation.

  1. I really like the colours in your print and the information about the artist was very interesting.

The brownies look pretty darn good.

    God bless.

    1. Thanks Jackie.

The brownies were quite nice, I would still say they were more cake like than brownie like, but at least they were edible!

  3. Rain seems to feature in most blogs of late, it just doesn't seem to stop. Love the new print.

    1. It feels like we've had the best of it in terms of the wet weather, yes we've had rain, but it hasn't been too bad.

  4. It must be really frustrating to ‘volunteer’ and feel like you have all the obligations of paid staff. I gave up volunteering a long time ago as I felt taken advantage of, I hope your experience is better than mine and that you don’t feel like this!

    1. I can appreciate how you must have felt.

Any extra volunteering I do is totally down to me, it's very rare that I'll be asked outright, a fellow volunteer offered to be a keyholder a few years ago and I do feel they are taken advantage of at times. Surely if there's enough work for an extra deputy manager then they should pay them as such - that's my view.
