For The Messies

Oh no, the cat got into my WIP bag and messed up all my threads!

I had been treating my WIP bag as a bit of a stash and dash receptacle so it was pretty much overflowing, the time had come-gone-come again for me to sort through it. Not something I was looking forward to.

It took ten minutes. Why was I putting it off? So, my question for anyone else out there who isn't naturally tidy or organised, what tips work for you in your efforts to make things easier?

Mine is simple, and something I picked up from spending time in the homes of my tidy friends - to not have a bin in every room. I used to have a bin in every room, but they would all get filled up to overflowing. Now we have two bins in the bathroom - recycling and non-recycling, and one in the kitchen - although even this is a new item this year. It means there's not as much work to do with all that emptying, and it helps rooms look clearer and there's not a basket of junk in every corner. Well, there probably is, but you know what I mean!

If you're not a naturally messy/disorganised person you probably think this is ridiculous and wonder how people can possibly find keeping things tidy to be difficult. Some of us do find it hard, so please keep negative comments to yourself. Happy Friday! We're off to see the Museum of the Moon tonight, anyone else have exciting plans for the weekend?

  1. Sounds like a good idea. We have given up having several bins in the kitchen we now only have the compost and a bin which we sort out before taking it out to the outside bin. I do have a separate bag for each project, I find that helps with the mess.

    1. We gave up having separate recycling bins, it was a lot of faff, Dan just takes things out to the bins in the garage when we need them. One less thing to clean out for me!

    1. We didn't make it, but we did see the the other art around own. Luckily the Moon will be nearby early next year, I'll be sure to catch it then.

  3. As long as I can find something, I figure my house is tidy.

I only have two containers for my whole house. One is the garbage and the other is for recycling.

    God bless.

    1. If you can find what you need then all is well, you are so right. I couldn't find my keys once and found myself locked inside the house!

  4. I've never really thought about the bins.... although we don't have many. One in the kitchen, which is so close to the living room (tiny house), it's sufficient for both rooms. Then we have bins in each bathroom, and one in the bedroom. They all get emptied regularly.

One thing I try to do (and remind my husband to do) is always take things with me when I go from room to room, or up and down stairs. There always seems to be stuff belonging elsewhere, papers to file or laundry etc, so taking it in bits here and there saves me having to go up and down numerous times with piles of washing to put away etc.

  5. Yes! We only have 2 bins (one upstairs and one downstairs) and 2 recycling baskets (one up and one downstairs) and it's much better. I'm not naturally tidy (I am quite clean though, just not tidy!!), I make myself do a few minutes every day, and I try to tell myself that even if I'm not motivated to do it doesn't mean I Can't do it - so I try to make myself at least do a little bit!

    1. I know just what you mean. There are some tasks I don't like doing, but I like knowing they need to be done even less than that! Sometimes I don't have to like it I just have to do it.
