Convenience Eating

Last week we ate a ton of processed food! On Sunday we visited IKEA and took the opportunity to splash out 50p each on a veggie dog for our lunch. I don't like mustard so had some ketchup, Dan said it was perfect with the sweet mustard they offer, the crispy onions and red cabbage were a lovely addition.

We had a couple of meals that only existed so we could eat cauliflower, I love cauli so much! This was a chipotle and sage veg stew.

I had half a sheet of puff pastry In the ice box so made a big pasty each filled with tomatoey lentils, served with some broccoli I pinched from the buns.

This was a bit of an I don't know what to cook meal. Rice with leftover lentils with spring onion, red pepper and mushrooms and a sweet potato burger. I hadn't seen these before but I bumped into my boss in Aldi and she told me about them so I thought I'd give them a go. I actually really enjoyed it, I think Dan was slightly less keen, they're not the cheapest of the cheap at £1.49 for two but they are filling. They're more suited for serving like this than on a bun with salad type burgers in my view, I would certainly buy these again as a treat.

I forgot to photograph what we ate this weekend, which included a cheap and cheerful fry up brunch from Shaws on Clifton St in Blackpool, £3.50 for toast, hash browns, mushrooms, baked beans, tomatoes and avocado, plenty of other vegan options available too.

  1. I really want a hot dog now. Well, a veggie one, complete with onions and ketchup, which of course I would need to spill down my front. 😆

  2. The chiplotle stew sounds nice! I like the sound of the sweet potato burgers too. And the veggie dog. Now I'm hungry. What is it about other people's food that always seems nicer than my own? Today I'm feeling roast dinner-ish, so roast potatoes, green veg, and some mediocre veg pies that are lurking in the freezer, I think.

    1. Mediocre veg pies sound like a reason to have even more gravy and red cabbage than usual!

  3. What a bargain for the veggie dog, it looks delicious. What a wonderful addition red cabbage I wouldn't have thought to use that for a topping.
