As Long As It's Black

I can't even discuss what happened at the football yesterday, I had to have a fizzy Vimto to calm myself down.

Anyway.

If you don't like hearing about people spending money on things that aren't absolutely essential then look away now!

On Saturday we went on what can only be described as a shopping spree.

By the time we got back to the car, I was hot, sweaty and more than a bit flustered, but I no longer had a shopping list of clothes I need/want. I did deviate from the list slightly as the list was very clear that everything should be plain and it should be black. I did buy a plain thing (a bra) but it wasn't black and I did buy some black things (bras) but they weren't plain. It's the best I could do, my style is "dazzle ship" and that's all there is to it.

Plain or black, you can't have both

After some very enthusiastic encouragement from Dan I also bought some going out shoes, we go out a lot so it is nice to have them, they're not even practical, how exciting!
Admire the teeteringly high heel.
On top of all this profligacy we ate out! Yes indeed, we bought yellow stickered pasties from Holland & Barrett, 37p each and ate them in the car as we waited to get out of the car park. By then we were beyond help and we rented an on demand film too, we got a whopping 58p discount on that meaning we paid £1.81. It was the very wonderful "All The President's Men" which means Dan is now refusing to get his hair cut so he can release his inner Robert Redford.

    1. Thank you. I took so many things into the changing rooms before deciding on these few things. Hard work but worth it!

  3. What a great haul, there is nothing like the occasional shopping spree. Love the mustard bag.

    1. The bag is from Laura Ashley, I was so surprised to get a non-leather bag from there, but it's ideal for me. I don't think I could go as far as to say I enjoyed it, but it's good to have done it.

  4. I was surprised when I saw the score on the news last night as whilst in the car earlier it was still 0-0 and was almost over. I thought of you, and an old friend who used to play for Burnley, and how pleased you would both be with the result. I like your new clothes!

    1. Thanks Scarlet. The goal was in added time over the added time, so disappointing, but that's sport for you.

I bought all my things from Preston and we were there just as all the Aston Villa fans arrived at the station and the police were getting them onto the bus to get to Deepdale, they were a lively bunch!

  5. Loving the handbag, it's very my colour. I have a new winter coat which is yellow, I love it. I hope you are having a lie down in a dark room after your spending spree x

A yellow coat is a beautiful thing, great choice.

  6. Looking in my wardrobe today I realised that the major colour is black but quite a few things have a pattern too. My knicks are black and my bra is black. Love the boots. Mind you don't fall over on those high heels!

    1. It's surprising when you really look that one or two colours appear most, even when it's not a conscious thing.

I think I'll have to practice walking in the boots before I venture out into the world!

    1. Thank you, what could be more sensible for winter than a pair of velvet boots?

  8. I like your colourful style, it's interesting and quirky.

Almost everything I wear these days is plain and it's very boring. I need a bit more pattern and colour in my life.

On the subject of shopping sprees, everyone needs a bit of a shopping spree now and again and you're going to look fab in your new clothes, so good for you.

I've had a little splurge today on both myself and LB for a special event this week and my sisters visit next week. Some of it may be going back as I ordered a selection of things in an attempt to find something that suited.

    1. Thank you.

A bit of pattern is good I think, even just in the accessories, they liven things up a bit.

I think it was good for me to buy a few things in one go, it's so difficult sometimes to put a full outfit together when it's a matter of waiting for things to show up at a charity shop.

Hope there's something suitable for you in your order, sounds like you have some exciting times coming up.

    1. Thank you. I am not used to spending such a lot on clothes in one go, but it could have been far heavier on the purse!

  12. Wooo, shopping spree! You're braver than me, I was getting hot and bothered purchasing new shoes recently! I dread to think how I would have been had it been clothes I had to buy! Well done on finding a non leather bag, now if only I could locate long winter gloves that are made of man made fibres.

I was packing away summer clothes the other day and was in the wardrobe. I believe I found a black skirt, a red skirt and a brown skirt, the rest of my clothes were patterned. Evidently I can't buy practical block colours!

    1. To be honest, it was a little bit like having a personal shopper, anything I even glanced at Dan picked up and made me try it on! I was allowed a coffee break part way through though.

I was amazed at the bag, especially as it was from Laura Ashley. I know what you mean about gloves, I looked at my mittens yesterday and they very much let the side down as they're so rubbishy looking compared to everything else.

I really did need some practical tops earlier this year to go with my patterned skits, I had to buy them online as I just can't look at them in the flesh, it's so boring! Glad I did though as it opened up a very different look, not something I'd choose to do though!

    2. Andy did the same thing to me recently, I assumed he was trying to distract me from a 1950's sewing box!

I have winter elbow gloves, but the right hand one has been darned to within an inch of its life, so I was hoping to find new ones, but they're all fingerless.

Will you treat yourself to new mittens?

Glad I'm not the only one who finds shopping for clothes boring! I lose interest after about five minutes and the people I have to battle through don't help and oh lordy, changing rooms fill me with horror. I get my plain tops on line.

    3. Ahhh, the distraction technique, I know it well.

I had a little look for mittens yesterday after you mentioned it, and you're right, there are many fingerless pairs or really chunky practical pairs but none in the middle. The search will continue, until them I think I'll just debobble with an old razor.

When we go shopping Dan notices when I start to go glassy eyed and whisks me away for a pick me up, or at least some fresh air! I was in the department store on Saturday for well over an hour, when I came out it was as though I'd been in a cave!
