First Step

This morning I restarted the new bathroom savings fund, £2.47. It was the change from our grocery shopping, we went to Morrisons and arrived just after the yellow stickers had been applied - 29p kale, 29p for two (organic) peppers, reduced potato cakes for a weekend treat (Dan intends to use them as a template to make his own), and some full price veg that was just very cheap.

That's probably enough for most of a floor tile though isn't it?

    1. Thank you. In some senses it's nice to start small, it's a very hands on initial saving, rather than just a bank transfer so it feels real.

  2. A tip from when I first made potato cakes. Make sure the mashed potato is cold before you add the flour. The first time I tried my potato was still warm & the result was rather disgusting. Though I have made some lovely ones from just mashed potato coriander & chilli flakes, delightful served with baked beans mushrooms & veggie sausages. Good luck with your bathroom savings we have been saving to renovate ours & hopeful will have enough to start next month if I can find what I want cheap enough xx

    1. Thanks for the tip, that's very useful, I've passed it on to Dan and he's written it into his book.

Thanks for the good wishes, I'm excited about the bathroom, I have already chosen the sink but that's as far as it goes. Good luck with your refurb, hope you find some bargains.

  4. It is a great start. I have been amazed at the price of veg at the moment they seem to have price wars over Easter and the cheaper prices have just continues. Long may it last...

    1. Thank you. You're right, there has been a real price war recently. I hope it does last for a while, a little bonus for the consumer!

  5. You've got to make a start sometime and you have. Nurture it well and it will soon grow.

    1. Or if not a tile, maybe some nice soap!

I made crisps with some of the kale, so tasty!
