End

It's an odd sensation when you know you're doing something for the final time. When it's a thing you like it's painful and immediate. When it something you don't like it seems to take time to realise the benefit.

We talked about being debt free for a long time before the date arrived. But when the date did arrive nothing happened. No cake or fireworks, just normality. It was only in the following weeks and months that it had an impact. I'm not saying it's good or bad, it's just how these things feel to me.

  1. When we got debt free, we felt one thing: relief. It was as though a huge weight was lifted and then we got an inheritance from Andy's aunt but nothing has changed, our habits are the same as ever we got used to not being spendy. My recent clothes splurge was a real treat as I usually got new things if something was actually needed but it isn't a habit I could comfortably get in to, it feels odd.

    1. I know what you mean, starting to take those steps back into spending, even when it's something you need, is really difficult.

  3. There were no bright lights or sparklers when we'd paid off our mortgage, just another ordinary day.

  4. Once it really hits you it will feel GREAT. I love having no bills but then what happens is you start resisting the monthly bills. Why is the cable so much, where is all this electricity being used, etc. I bet it won't be long before you're doing the happy dance about being debt free.

  5. Being debt free is a fabulous place to be but it can take a while to sink in I think.
