Aldi Convert

I've been visiting Aldi more often over the past couple of months, just for bits and bobs and I'm starting to quite like it. Yesterday I went in for some potatoes, everyone was so polite and calm there unlike other places in the town. I got my potatoes and they were 29p for 2kg. I know everyone already knows but 29p when I'd seem the same variety for £2 at the other supermarket. I do like to shop locally, but as we don't have a market or greengrocer on this occasion I think I'd be a bit daft to pay more.

Anyway, that wasn't the good thing, at the checkout there was a bit of a kerfuffle (in a good way). One of the cashiers was starting to come down with a cold so a regular customer bought her some cold and flu medicine so we wouldn't feel too bad over Christmas. What a lovely thing to do.

Merry Christmas to anyone celebrating tomorrow, and have a lovely day to anyone who isn't.

  1. 29p is incredible, we haven't been to Aldi recently, must get there sometime and have another look. What a nice thing for that customer to do for the cashier....there are clearly still some nice people around. Just found your blog by the way, and am enjoying it.

    1. Thank you for reading, and taking time to comment.

29p for 2kg Maris Piper was just craziness to me, bargain of the week certainly. I'd been put off Aldi because it was just so busy, but I've found if I nip in just before or just after work it's fairly quiet.

  2. How sweet of the customer to buy medicine for the cashier! I shop at both Lidl and Aldi and love the fact that the prices are great, the shops are small so I can get round quickly and don't get overfaced, and the cashiers are unfailingly fast, friendly and polite. I went to Tesco earlier this week to spend coupons collected from spends on petrol and at our local Tesco extra, and couldn't stand the choice, distance I had to walk to find what I needed, and the noise!
I hope you enjoy your Christmas with Dan, and whatever family you see this year.

    1. Thank you.

I agree with you about the superstores, we visited a Tesco Extra a little while ago and found it exhausting, it was so big! I love supermarkets with no music playing.

  5. Unfortunately we don't have an Aldi anywhere near us, but I still like good old Lidl. Have a lovely Christmas spending time with your family.

    1. I'm the other way about, we don't have Lidl but do have Aldi. I think it was only last year that arrived, we had to go to the next town along for either before that.

I will not have a nice time with my family but thank you very much for the sentiment!

  6. Sorry, I have been reading your blog via emails but have been rather busy to comment on any really at the moment. I get my groceries at our local Aldi (the same site as ASDA) as I love the speediness of shopping there. Yesterday I even got a kiss off the Manager, Nick, one on each cheek! It's rather like a local shop and I love all the staff there. Mind you I have used Aldi for years, when it first came out, for certain things. Nowadays I get everything there apart from the odd thing they don't sell. We don't have a local Lidl, otherwise I'd use that.

    1. That sounds lovely. I know what you mean about it feeling like a local shop, ours is a bit like that too. The only reason we hadn't been for years is that we didn't have one in the town, now we do and I've integrated it into my routine it's great.

We're moving away from a weekly shop and I'm picking up more bits and bobs as we need them in the town then we go whenever we need to to buy bigger things that I can't carry on my own.

    1. I'm going to nip into Lidl the next time we're near one, I can't remember the last time I went to one, but I used to do really well there.
